Sharah & Brent Russell
Married 6-2-07 - Grand Junction, Colorado

We had a last minute venue change three months before the wedding.  We went from a hotel ballroom with everything included to having to create a wedding site in a plain backyard.

THE DETAILS
How long to plan the wedding:  10 months
Number of Guests:  250
Budget: $12,000

Wedding Site:  Family home overlooking the Monument and Bookcliffs, Grand Junction, CO

The Planning
We used the Western Colorado Wedding Guide, the internet and attended a bridal show.

The Flowers
Purple roses and white stargazer lilies.

The Food
We had a buffet of barbeque pork & brisket.

The Cake
A cousin baked us a white 4-tier with buttercream frosting and decorated with fresh flowers.

Special Touches

We did the sand ceremony with our Mothers.  We had 2 different containers: one white, one purple.  Our mothers poured some sand into the container and Brent & I finished it off.

We had Heart Haven, a Harp/Flute/Violin Trio musicians, play at the ceremony.

Brent’s uncle married us.

What went wrong
I had a really long veil that kept getting caught in the grass and pulled out of my hair.

What would you do Different
I wish we would have had more tent space.

Your Advice to couples just starting to plan their weddings
1.  Start early.
2.  Buy a planning guide.
3.  Order your dress at least 6 months in advance.
4.  Hire a videographer.  The day goes by so fast and you miss so many details it’s wonderful to see them on video.

Honeymoon Locale:  Mexico.  We stayed at the Occidental Grande Xcaret – highly recommended.
