Kasia & Thai Doan of
Phoenix, AZ
Married September 2, 2006
Cortez, Colorado
We had a mellow laid-back four-day Colorado destination wedding weekend. With family flying in from Poland, France and across the U.S. we knew our guests would enjoy Colorado’s natural beauty and the crisp mountain air.
How long to plan wedding: 6 months.
Weekend Wedding Budget: $20,000
Number of Guests: 145 with 140 flying in from out-of-town.
Wedding Site: Private Ranch, Cortez, Colorado
The Theme/Decor
We tried to mixed both our cultures, Polish & Vietnamese, into the ceremony and reception. Our color scheme was deep chocolate with latte and crème. We hung white silk lanterns and curtains, handmade from Vietnam throughout the site.
The Flowers
Calla lilies and white lilies wrapped in crème ribbon. I choose Lilies because both My Grandmother & Mother had lilies in their bridal bouquets.
The Cake
We had a rolled fondant white cake with raspberry filled layers and café latte ribbon wrapped around each layer.
The Food
Chuck Norton catered an amazing array of food over the three-day weekend.
On Friday, we had a cowboy-western BBQ with chicken, beef ribs, beans, coleslaw and corn on the cob.
On Saturday, we had buffet style carving stations and a variety of Colorado beers on-tap.
On Sunday, we had a New Orleans Cancun theme with crawfish, mussels, clams and gumbo.
The Favors
Bottles of Wine from Australia & Chile covered with decorative Vietnamese bags. We also had silk bags filled with mints and our favorite Asian teas.
Special Touches
My mom and I made the invitations to match our color scheme of the wedding. It was a wonderful and rewarding project.
Best thing about the Day
Being surrounded by all our fiends and family.
My Advice
1. Before you start talking with vendors, sit down together and discuss your vision. Talk about color scheme, attire, wedding party, personal touches, etc. When you know what you want, you will not be wasting time and getting confused.
2. Hire wedding professionals. All our vendors were incredibly talented, provided wonderful service and offered lots of wonderful tips and ideas.
The Honeymoon
Instead of a Honeymoon we purchased a new home in Arizona.
