Wedding Professional Profile
Kyla Jenkinson of Kyla Jackson Photography

Kyla Jenkinson submitted the winning cover photo for the 2006/2007 Western Colorado Wedding Guide. Shot in late September above Telluride this breathtaking photo was the perfect choice for the Summer/Fall Issue.

Having photographed close to one hundred weddings, Kyla truly loves her job. Kyla admits, “Being a romantic, weddings are my passion and I just love the fact that I am the one who gets to tell and share their romantic story through photos.  My goal is to change peoples’ impression of portrait” photography. I don’t want stiff posed photos and forced smiles. I want my clients to let loose and have fun so I can capture their real character.”

“Personality is an important part of photography when you are in the wedding and portrait business,” states Kyla. “I am often caught smiling behind the camera because I truly enjoy what I do. I don’t hide my excitement when I know I have made a beautiful image. My clients respond to the animation I evoke. Together we create photographs that reflect the enthusiasm behind and in front of the camera.”

“My photo specific education has been a huge advantage to success in my career. I feel fortunate that I have international experience managing a photography studio in New Zealand. Working in the field after college helped me define a path towards wedding photography.”

Born and raised in the Durango, Colorado area Kyla returned from New Zealand with her future husband, who fell in love with Durango’s laid-back life style. “Having confidence in my technical skills gained at Colorado Mountain College made it easier to make the jump into opening my own studio not long after I moved back to Durango.” For Kyla continuing education is a mandatory to define your skills as a professional photographer. “I strongly believe it is important to stay current as a photographer, especially in this digital age. I want my clients to have access to the best products available.”

As far as weddings go, Kyla offers engagement photos, albums and online ordering with her packages. Kyla wants her couples to have a completed project – a final piece that tells their wedding story so they have something to enjoy for many years to come.

Kyla’s advice to couples, “Remember it is your celebration, your union – it’s all about you. Relax and concentrate on that. Be open to allowing your photographer to direct you. Unusual instructions tend to turn into fantastic photographs. If you are enjoying each other and having fun your wedding photos will reflect that.”

When asked what the most rewarding aspect of her job is Kyla responded “People. I develop amazing relationships with my clients. I honestly feel like I have the best job on the planet.”

In addition to weddings, Kyla shoots family portraits, babies, and seniors at her studio in Durango.  Contact Kyla at (970) 375-1212 and check out her portfolio at www.kylajacksonphoto.com
