Caitlin & Sergio
Married June 19, 2007
Durango, Colorado

We wanted to spend our entire wedding weekend with friends and family in a place that we knew everyone would love -Durango. We fell in love with the rustic charm of the Ridgewood Event Center and knew it was the right place for us.  We held our ceremony in a grove of cottonwood trees, where we were closely surrounded by family and friends.  We had cocktails on the porch, dinner and toasts in a tent lit with tea lights and lanterns, and cake and dancing in the event center.  It was the perfect day.

SPECIAL TOUCHES
Our ceremony was very personal - my uncle married us, our siblings stood with us, and we wrote and exchanged our own vows.

Before our wedding, I wrote letters to all of the women in my life that had been influential and important to me.  The letters were waiting for them when they arrived, and they were each asked to help me make my bridal bouquet by handing me a single flower as I walked down the aisle.  I was able to have a moment with each of them this way, and when I reached the end of the aisle my mom tied the bouquet together with a ribbon.

We served dinner family-style in a tent on the lawn – we wanted dinner to be fun and intimate for everyone.  After dinner, we moved to the indoor facility for cake and a champaign toast and a childhood friend performed a song that he had written for our wedding.

When our guests arrived in Durango, there were gift bags waiting for them filled with snacks, water bottles, a map of Durango, and a list of recommended restaurants.  At the reception, each guest received a box of chocolate truffles from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory wrapped with ribbons that said “Caitlin and Sergio.”

We had a small, lovely rehearsal luncheon with our families at Blue Lake on Friday afternoon.  Friday night, we invited all of our wedding guests to a casual backyard pig roast with locally brewed beer – it was a blast!  The party was a great way for us to spend more time with all of our family and friends that weekend and for the important people in our lives to have a chance to get to know each other better.

Since we knew that we would be having fun and celebrating, we rented shuttles to transport people both nights so that our guests could be free to enjoy themselves!

Our Advice
Find a way to make your wedding a unique reflection of you!  Ultimately, it’s not the tiny details that you’ll notice or remember about your wedding.  Instead, it’s the atmosphere that you create as you start your life together that really makes a difference.
