Sara & Joe Clair
Married July 3, 2004
Durango, Colorado
Sara & Joe are the featured couple on the cover of the Western Colorado Wedding Guide - Southwest Colorado Issue & the WesternColoradoWeddingGuide.com website! Here is their wedding day story...
“We had a week long celebration leading up to the wedding with 100 of our closet friends and family - all of them from out-of-town.”
The Location
Durango
Mountain Resort; Durango, Colorado
We wanted to share the beauty of Durango with all our friends and
family. This was the perfect opportunity to get them to visit Durango!
Planning
Time frame
One year (July – July)
Challenges of Planning from a Distance (Sara resided in Ohio)
The little details.
The Color Scheme
Traditional black and white.
The Flowers
Lots of Red Roses.
The Cake
Three tier chocolate cake with red raspberry filling and buttercreme
frosting decorated with black piping and topped with red roses.
The Favors
Personalized CD’s with music from our 1st dance, etc.
Special Touches
We wrote our own vows. It was difficult putting feelings into words
but we finally got it done one week before the wedding. It was a
nice personal touch we got a lot of compliments from our guests.
Also, instead of using a guest book at the reception we had a framed
engagement picture that we had everyone sign and leave a message
with a silver marker. Now it is something we can look at everyday.
Entertaining the Out-of-Town Guests
We had a week of group activities planned for all our guests; Golf
Outing, hiking, Durango-Silverton Train, horseback riding, waterfall
jumping at Cascade Falls (a bounding experience) and a cookout at
our house. Plus, the women spent one entire pampering day at the
6th St. Day Spa.
Rehearsal Dinner
Rented the outdoor patio at Seasons.
Biggest Stress
I lost my wallet the night before the wedding. I was panicked because
I needed my driver’s license to board the plane to Hawaii.
Luckily I found it in the laundry basket a few hours before the
wedding.
Best Thing about the Day
Besides being married, of course, the guests’ comments; “Can
we do this every year for your Anniversary?”
What
Would you do Different?
I wished we would have hired a videographer. It would be
great to relive the day over and over again!
Sara’s Advice
1. You can never be to detail oriented. I was so at peace the day
of the wedding because I knew all my ducks were in a row!
2. Surround yourself with wedding vendors that
you have a good rapport with.
