Since I was a little girl, it was my dream to have a beautiful fall wedding. My wedding was everything I dreamed it would be!
Wedding Site: Ridgewood Event Center at Blue Lake Ranch. We loved the gorgeous landscape and beautiful, rustic feel of the event center.
How long to plan wedding: 11 months.
Number of Guests: 150 with 100 flying in from out-of-town.
The Planning
I had such a great time planning my wedding, I used the Western Colorado Wedding Guide to get me started and it continued to help me along the way. The Wedding Guide is such a great local resource for brides! My Mom and Mother-in-law attended the Durango Wedding Expo for ideas for me while I was living in Florida.
Biggest planning challenge
I did a lot of the planning from Florida, where I lived at the time. About two months before the wedding, I was so overwhelmed with all the details, we hired a wedding consultant. I highly recommend hiring a consultant.
The Theme/Décor
Fall Theme. We had floating candle bowls in the center of each table, with a fall wreath of leaves around the base of the bowl. We also had floating maple leaf candles in the bowls and scattered around the tables, were fall leaves.
The Flowers
Deep red, teracotta, merlot roses, mango calla lilies, fall color daisies, mini sunflowers, mokera orchids, red berries, black bacarras, and magnolia leaves.
The Food
For the cocktail hour, we served shrimp chipotle, baked brie in a puff pastry, thai red coconut-curry chicken skewers, and crab stuffed mushrooms. We had a buffet consisting of Tuscan style Beef Tenderloin with basil-herb aioli, Tomatillo Chicken, grilled vegetables, duchess potatoes, salad, and bread.
The Favors
Frosted hearts votive holders with votives candles wrapped in fall organza bags with fall themed tags that read, “Thank you for sharing in our day”
Special Touches/Personalization
We had a special poem on the back of the programs remembering those who had passed away and could not be with us.
Most memorable moment
Wiping a tear from Mike’s face during the ceremony, hearing “I pronounce you has husband and wife”, and our first dance.
What would you do Different
I was so nervous when I walked down the aisle, I forgot to hug and kiss my dad, before he sat down.
My Advice
Try to get everything done at least two weeks to a month before the wedding, so that you have time to relax and enjoy the festivities.
Honeymoon Locale
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
RECOMMENDED WEDDING PROS Venue: Ridgewood Event Center Photographer: McCarson Leigh Jones, Red Scarf Shots. The photos of Mike and I were absolutely breath-taking. She was able to catch the love that Mike and I share for one another through her camera. Consultant: Stephanie Sheek, Protégé Event Planning. Stephanie was absolutely wonderful and so easy to work with. Although I didn’t decide to have a wedding coordinator until about a month and a half before my wedding- Stephanie was able to jump right in and pick up everything that I had planned for the past 10 months. She was fantastic. Caterer: Durangourmet. Jimmy is such a wonderful chef/cook. Our food for our wedding was such a hit; people are still talking about the sauce he used with the beef tenderloin and his shrimp appetizer. He is highly professional and so easy to talk to and work with. He is an easy-going person and has an excellent staff. I highly recommend him. DJ: Aiko Aiko Sound. Dean was the best DJ ever. He knew exactly what to play for all our guests to enjoy. I never sat down from the moment the music started. Everyone who came to our wedding was so pleased with the music that he played. Party Rentals: Durango Party Rental. They are so easy to work with and they had everything at our wedding site on time and set up. Officiant: Rev Chessa Gill. Chessa was so sweet and sincere in helping us with our wedding vows and learning our story of how we met. She speaks from her heart when she gives weddings. I thank her for making our wedding day so memorable. |
